Walter Gropius<\/span><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>in full\u00a0Walter Adolph Gropius<\/span>\u00a0(born\u00a0May 18, 1883,\u00a0Berlin<\/a>, Ger.\u2014diedJuly 5, 1969,\u00a0Boston<\/a>, Mass., U.S.), German American architect and educator who, particularly as director of the\u00a0<\/a>Bauhaus<\/a>\u00a0(1919\u201328), exerted a major influence on the development of modern\u00a0<\/a>architecture<\/a>. His works, many executed in collaboration with other architects, <\/span>included the school building and faculty housing at the Bauhaus (1925\u201326), the Harvard University Graduate Center, and the\u00a0United States<\/a>Embassy in\u00a0Athens<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
